Irish Ferry Passenger Traffic Establish Record

Remarkable Passenger Statistics:

Ferries to IrelandIrish ferry passengers have created a good record of passenger traffic in the first half of the 2010. The percentage of increase of traffic has gone up to 16 per cent and these figures are according to Irish Maritime Development Office (IMDO). Official figures release state that the number of cars carried to the Irish Sea by 13 per cent when compared to 4 per cent drop for H1 2009.

Ash- cloud Disrupts Air Traffic:

The rise in the figures is due to the disruption of flights due to ash – cloud from the Icelandic Eyjafjallajokull volcanic mountain in April. The disruption has cause a diversion of the traffic to ferry and it has further increased passengers using sea route to reach their destinations. Survey estimates say that ferry traffic has increased by three fold and during this period of time, there was a great demand for the foot passenger bookings across Irish Sea. According to the IMDO estimates it found around 106,000 passengers in addition boarding ferries when compared to passenger traffic in 2009.
