of James I, the town was incorporated as a borough by royal charter, to create an establishment of a quay. This resulted in the development of Port at Belfast and this place is a confluence of rivers, Ferset and Lagan. Past records tell us that in 1633, twenty years after the establishment of the Port, 29 vessels were owned with a tonnage of 1,100 tonnes. The trade activities progressed through this port and quay was enlarged to accommodate the ships.
